I have experience working closely with family and friends of victims of homicide and suicide. A sudden, violent loss can leave us with so many unanswered questions, it is difficult to accept the death and grieve properly. Only once you can accept the tragedy and grieve can you move on.
PTSD often follows the experience of traumatic loss and can prevent us living full lives. Our brains often struggle to assimilate traumatic life events, causing insomnia, flash backs, survivors guilt and an inability to find any joy in life.
PTSD is also trigger by being witness to homicide or suicide and the same emotional trauma impacts you, even when you don't have an association with the victim.
